Our Story
Dr Melvin Tan started his first private clinic in February 1998. His first clinic was located at Mount Elizabeth orchard. The clinic then relocated to Mount Elizabeth Novena in 2013. Being in the private practice for more than 25 years, Dr Tan has lived up to his philosophy of bringing affordable cardiology care to as many individuals as he is able to.
At Melvin Tan Cardiology Practice, our primary goal as health care providers is to put our patient’s wellbeing first.

Being a heart specialist for more than 35 years, Dr Melvin Tan’s medical career began in 1983, when he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) degree at the National University of Singapore. He then obtained his specialist degree from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (R.C.P.I) and conferred a member of the college.
During his specialist training at the Singapore General Hospital’s Department of Cardiology, his medical career culminated in a year of sub-specialty training in Interventional Cardiology, at the world-renowned Duke University Medical Centre.
1n 1996, Dr Tan moved into private practice and 2 years later, set up his own clinic. His vision is to bring state-of-the-art, yet affordable, cardiology care and treatments to as many individuals as possible. In 1998, he was appointed visiting consultant at the National Heart Centre (NHC) and in Year 2000, he accepted the invitation to be the only one of five cardiologists to be visiting consultant to the National University Hospital (NUH).
Although Dr Melvin Tan’s specialty remains in treatment of coronary artery disease through interventional devices, he manages and treats patients with other heart-related disorders. These includes hypertension, heart failure, hyperlipidemia and heart rhythm abnormalities.
Being an experienced cardiologist, Dr Tan has been invited to speak on all aspects of heart disease at numerous forums both at home and overseas; and to the public as well as to various groups of physicians such as general practitioners and fellow specialists.
